[ARCHIVED] Debris Pickup and Transfer Station

Helping citizens get back into their homes and clean-up efforts are the main focus as we move ahead from the Flood of 2016. To make this process easier for those living in North Cedar Falls, we ask that you stay out of the area unless you are a resident, a business owner or are assisting in the clean-up.

The building division continues conducting safety inspections on any home or business that took on water. Electric service equipment that was partially or completely submerged in flood water will be disconnected until repairs have been made and inspected. Other electrical wiring submerged in flood water will need to be removed or replaced. The inspections are to ensure the safety of our citizens. Please call Inspection Services with any questions at 268-5161, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits for the repairs are required. Permit fees will be suspended for flood impacted properties.

City crews are focusing this week on street repairs so properties can be reached safely. Two large dumpsters are located on the southwest corner of 2816 Center Street for flood debris. Please place appliances and large items off to the side of the dumpsters. The dumpsters will be in place until the end of the day on Friday, September 30th. Beginning Saturday, October 1st all debris will be picked up by City crews curbside. Please place items as close to the edge of the roadway as possible to assist with pickup, sorting into appliance, yard waste, building materials and sand bag piles. Please be aware of and try to avoid placing items near the water shut offs at the curb.

The Transfer Station is open and will remain open Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Flood debris may be brought to the Transfer Station at no charge to Cedar Falls residents. The Black Hawk County landfill will be open Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but regular tipping fees will apply.

The Recycling Center remains closed.

Due to flooding, the North Main Street Yard Waste Facility is closed until further notice. Curbside yard waste and refuse collection to those not impacted by the flood will not be interrupted.

Many recreation trails in the Cedar Falls area are still under water, or are covered with debris. We encourage people who using the recreation trails to use caution.

Citizens in need of food, water and cleaning kits can go to the Living Water Church, located at 1210 Lone Tree Rd., where volunteers and city staff are able to assist through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 pm.

The North Cedar Falls Fire Station is open and Public Safety personnel are being assigned to that location. Drinking water is available at the North Cedar Falls Fire Station. Residents will need to bring their own containers.

Please continue to look for information on the City’s website in regards to flood information. Call (319) 243-2700 with any flood questions you may have.
