The City of Cedar Falls has awarded the 2016 Street Reconstruction Project to Peterson Contractors Inc. of Reinbeck, Iowa. This contractor will reconstruct portions of five streets as a part of this project. Funding is provided by the 1% Local Option Sales Tax.
Reconstruction will begin August 17 by closing State Street from E. 8th Street to E. 12th Street/Waterloo Road. The intersection at Waterloo Road will be open. The intersections at E. 8th Street, E. 9th Street, E. 10th Street, and E. 11th Street will be closed for the contractor to begin removing pavement. The road closure will be in effect for ten to twelve weeks depending on the weather.
For your safety, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth. Please stay behind the sidewalk, where available, on the property side.
Alternate garbage pickup points will be required within the closure area on State Street. Residents can place their collection carts on the open portion of State Street, E. 8th Street, E. 9th Street, E. 10th Street, or E. 11th Street during this stage of the street closure on the normal collection day for that particular street.
Yard waste collection carts can be placed curbside at the same location as the garbage collection carts for Monday pickup. Yard waste may also be taken to the transfer station, in any type of container, when the transfer station is open.
During the road closure, rural type mailboxes will be removed and temporarily relocated. The contractor will coordinate the temporary location with the U.S. Postal Service. Normally, all mailboxes are relocated at one end of the road closure. Once reconstruction is completed, mailboxes will be returned to their original location. Residents are responsible for removing decorative attachments to the mailboxes and relocating landscape plantings around the mailboxes. The contractor is responsible for removing and temporarily relocating the mailbox and post only. Please do not park adjacent to the relocated mailboxes.
