[ARCHIVED] Reconstruction of a Portion of W. 4th St. to Begin

The City of Cedar Falls has awarded the 2016 Street Reconstruction Project to Peterson Contractors Inc. of Reinbeck, Iowa. Portions of five streets will be reconstructed as a part of this project. Funding for this project is provided by the 1% Local Option Sales Tax.

Beginning Wednesday, April 28th, the contractor will begin reconstruction of W. 4th Street by closing West 4th Street from 2301 to 2327 W. 4th Street. Residents at 2327 W. 4th Street will have access to their parking lot off of Cedar Crest Drive. The intersection at Cedar Crest Drive and W. 4th Street will be closed. In order for the contractor to begin pavement removal, a full road closure will be required. The road closure will be in effect for six to seven weeks, depending on the weather.

During the closure, alternate garbage pickup points will be required for residents who normally place automated collection carts within the closure area. Collection carts can be placed on the open portion of W. 4th Street or Cedar Crest Drive during the street closure. This should be done on the normal collection day for that particular street.

Yard waste collection carts can be placed curbside at the same location as the garbage collection carts for Monday pickup. Yard waste may also be taken to the transfer station in any type of container when the transfer station is open. A nominal fee is charged.

Also during the road closure, rural type mailboxes will be removed and temporarily relocated. The contractor will coordinate the location of the relocated mailboxes with the U.S. Postal Service. Normally, all mailboxes are relocated at one end of the road closure. Once reconstruction is completed, the mailboxes will be returned to their original location. Please do not park adjacent to the relocated mailboxes. Residents will be responsible for removing any decorative attachments to the mailboxes and relocating any landscape plantings around the mailboxes. The contractor will be responsible for removing and temporarily relocating the mailbox and post only.

If you want to receive road closure notices by e-mail, visit www.cedarfalls.com/notify and follow the instructions for road construction as shown.
