The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission (BHCSWMC) will co-sponsor a spring disposal event with the City of Waterloo on Saturday, April 11th from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The Waterloo Waste Water Treatment Plant will host the event at their facility at 3505 Easton Avenue, but this event is open to all Black Hawk County residents for residential material disposal. The April 11th event will allow for the disposal of household hazardous materials (HHM) and recycling of electronics.
Residents with items such as old cleaners, compact fluorescent bulbs or varnish need only follow signs at the treatment plant and volunteers will help them unload their toxic items. Clean Harbors Environmental and their chemists will be on-site to collect the hazardous materials for safe disposal. A list of toxic materials that will be accepted at the event can be found here. Paint, motor oil, antifreeze, and appliances will not be accepted. These items can either be handled at home or recycled locally. Business waste will not be taken at the event. For a list of vendors who can assist businesses, please call the Waste Trac office at (319) 266-8722.
For electronics, BHCSWMC has contracted once again with Midwest Electronics Recovery to collect outdated, broken or unwanted electronics from Black Hawk County residents. Volunteers will be available to help unload the heavy televisions and monitors. A list of items that will be accepted at the event can be found here. <
