Beginning July 1st the Cedar Falls Recycling Center will accept all colors of glass (clear, green, brown and blue) food and beverage containers in addition to the clear glass that we currently accept. Also accepted will be glass water glasses, candle jars, glass flower vases and window panes.
Pottery, ceramic, porcelain, or mirrors will not be accepted. These are not glass and are true contaminates affecting the final recycled product.
The City of Cedar Falls is partnering with Ripple Glass out of Kansas City, Missouri to recycle glass. Ripple Glass uses optical sorting and screen systems to produce cullet to manufactures' requirements. The glass is used as feedstock to make new bottles, fiberglass insulation, countertops and tiles. Ripple Glass also partners with Boulevard Brewing and Owens Corning, making some of their products from recycled glass.
Ripple Glass will haul the glass to their facility at no charge to the City.
Residents will be able to recycle their glass items like normal at our main recycling facility at 15th and State St. or at our drop-off locations around town: Fareway, UNI – Panther Parkway, Greenhill Village, Western Home Communities on S. Main St., and 1921 W. 18th St. Pointe West Condos.
