To provide a safe walking surface for pedestrians, property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property. City ordinance states this must be done in a reasonable amount of time following the snowfall. If the property owner fails to remove ice or snow, the Public Works Department may have it removed without notice to the property owner, with the cost of the removal assessed against the property as taxes.
Please be sure when clearing snow from driveways, sidewalks or parking lots, that it is not deposited on to city streets. This practice can cause hazardous situations and is prohibited by city ordinance.
Additional information regarding salt barrel locations, the City's snow and ice removal policies and snow emergencies can be found at the Public Works Department.
