On August 7, 2012 there will be a joint effort between the Cedar Falls Police Department and the Target retail store at 214 Viking Plaza Drive to promote and celebrate the National Night Out. The event will run from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm. This marks the 29th anniversary of this nationwide project which is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support for, and participation in local anticrime programs
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
The Cedar Falls Target store will host the event in their parking lot and there will be a police vehicle, fire truck, ambulance and Air Care helicopter on display; along with crew and emergency personnel to give tours and explain what they do to promote safety in the community. There will be opportunities to have children fingerprinted; and there will be handouts, treats and drinks available.
This event is a great opportunity for the public to meet emergency responders from the Cedar Valley; and to realize they are real people who want to help their communities and make a difference by providing these important services.
