This year’s theme, “Rockin’ Around the Holidays”, is portrayed through the artistry of Tatiana Jackson who has donated her beautiful artwork for auction at this year’s gala event. Proceeds will be used for state-of-the-art equipment for the operating room and emergency department at Sartori Memorial Hospital.
The traditional events including the Gala, Teddy Bear Tea, Style Show, Santa’s Workshop, Bake Sale and Dance Spectacular will surely be a success in 2007. New events to be showcased this year include:
Speed Dating, a chance to meet the man or woman of your dreams in just three minutes, will be a pre-event to the Jingle Bell Rock. Dance the night away with live 50’s music from G.T.O. of Des Moines. Twist lessons will be provided for those who may have forgotten the once popular dance crave. Bring your poodle skirts and roll up your white T’s because this is an event even Elvis won’t miss!
The Festival of Trees committee has teamed-up with Cedar Falls Community Main Street, Cedar Falls Historical Society, The Cedar Falls Women’s Club, The Hearst Center for the Arts and the Cedar Falls Recreation Center to bring you the first ever Sartori Lights Up Downtown Parade and Tree Lighting. The event will kick-off with the lighting of the Sartori Tree on the 400 block of Main Street. The first Festival of Trees parade will travel down Main Street and end at the Overman Park annual tree lighting with a performance by the UNI Men’s Glee Club. Other activities during this event includes the Cedar Falls Historical Society’s 25th Annual Christmas Walk, a visit from Santa, hot apple cider, a weaver’s demonstration, the children’s choir and a chamber ensemble will be at various historical homes.
Shop, Drop and Roll will make its debut as well. The Hearst Center for the Arts and the Cedar Falls Recreation Center teamed-up to have a kid’s craft night at the Cedar Falls Community Center. Parents may drop their kids at the Community Center, then enjoy a night of shopping at downtown stores where Main Street merchants will offer specials, donating a portion of their sales to Festival of Trees. Be sure to check out the Festival of Trees website. With just a click of the button you can download and print the event reservation form, parade entry form or parade rules.
