[ARCHIVED] Fall Yard Waste Disposal

Seasonal Yard Waste Drop-Off & Compost Facility

This facility is staffed and open to residents during the months of October and November in the fall, and during the month of April in the spring. The facility is located in the 300 block of East Main Street in Cedar Falls. Hours of operation are from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and 8:00 am until 3:00 pm on Saturdays. Operating dates and/or times may be altered depending on usage and weather conditions.
Residents are allowed to bring brush, logs, leaves, garden waste, and grass clippings to this site. Brush and twigs are processed separately from the yard and garden waste.

Garbage and demolition material is not accepted at this site.

Wood chips and compost will be available to residents free of charge during normal operating hours. Residents are required to “load their own” so be sure to bring containers and shovels.

Leaf Vacuum Service

Cedar Falls residents have the option to utilize a “call in” leaf vacuum service. This service is offered during the months of October and November. Residents who are interested in this disposal option should pile their leaves directly behind the curb between the street and sidewalk for collection. Residents must then call the Public Works Department at 273-8629 to request the vacuum service. The cost for this service will be $45 per visit.

Additional Leaf Collection and Yard Waste Disposal Options

  • Cedar Falls yard waste carts will be emptied each Monday free of charge during the months of October and November. Between the dates of November 5th and November 16th, carts will be collected as often as possible throughout the week.
  • Paper biodegradable yard waste bags will be collected curbside from November 5th to November 16th. Biodegradable bags will be sold at the Transfer Station for $.50 each. Paper biodegradable bags purchased from area retailers will also be accepted. Bag sales at the Transfer Station will end on Wednesday November 14th.

  • The Transfer Station will be accepting yard waste daily during normal operations. Mondays are reserved for yard waste only. The hours for the Transfer Station are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Residents are however encouraged to utilize the Seasonal Compost Facility for their yard waste disposal needs.

A burn ban has been in effect in Cedar Falls since January 1, 2004.
Residents are reminded that the burning of leaves and grass clippings is prohibited within the city limits under any circumstances and is considered a municipal infraction. Violators will be subject to a civil penalty.

For additional information regarding yard waste disposal options contact the Public Works Department at 273-8629 or by email.
