Cedar Falls Public Safety will be honoring fallen Cedar Falls reserve officer, Scott Sterrett, during a dedication event on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The event will take place in the parking area across from Paw Park (3200 South Main Street in Cedar Falls).
Sterrett served as a reserve police officer in Cedar Falls for over a decade beginning in 2005. He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and passed away in 2018. An avid runner, Sterrett participated in numerous marathons throughout his life including the Boston Marathon. An annual 5K memorial marathon is held in his name every summer in Cedar Falls.
In recognition of his service and love of running, Sterrett will be commemorated with engraved 5 and 10K memorial markers which will be located along the area trail. Each marker will feature a quick read code (QRC) that will link to information about pancreatic cancer.
"Scott was always an important part of not just the Reserve Unit, but the entire Police Division," said Cedar Falls Police Chief Mark Howard. "Those of us who served and grew up here in Cedar Falls with Scott were blessed to have spent time with him. Even as a part-time volunteer police officer, Scott made us a better department."
Guests can park at Paw Park or across the street at The Falls Aquatic Center for the event.
