Road Closure Notice: West 18th Street

Beginning Monday, July 31, 2023, the contractor will begin the reconstruction of West 18th Street from 1522 West 18th Street to 1315 West 18th Street. This stage will connect the two new segments of reconstruction that have just been completed. In order for the contractor to begin pavement removal, a full road closure will be required. The road closure will be in effect for approximately twelve (12) weeks, depending on the weather. Below you will find a map with the closure area highlighted.

W18th Road Closure map

The planned work for this street includes the removal of the existing pavement and driveway approaches, installation of new water main and storm sewer, new concrete pavement and driveway approaches, and sod from the back of the new curb to the front edge of the sidewalk or right-of-way limits. Any landscaping, including plants and decorations located between the curb and the existing sidewalk are subject to removal by the contractor. If you intend to keep any of these materials, relocations outside of the right-of-way must take place ahead of the contractor to ensure they stay with the property.

For safety's sake, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed street. It would be advisable to stay behind the sidewalk on the property side during the reconstruction work.

During the closure, alternate garbage pickup points will be required for residents who normally place automated collection carts within the closure area of West 18th Street. Residents can place their collection carts on any end of the street closure shown with the yellow boxes on the map. This should be done on the normal collection day for that particular street.

Yard waste collection carts can be placed curbside at the same location as the garbage collection carts for Monday pickup. Yard waste may also be taken to the Transfer Station in any type of container when the facility is open.

Residents should have their carts out by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection and brought in by 8:00 p.m. on the day of collection. If your residence is located within the closure limits of Stage 2, your label was included with the first mailing.

If your mailbox is affixed to your home, mail delivery will not be impacted.
