Due to the heavy snow fall of the past week the Cedar Falls Police Department would like to remind citizens that their vehicles need to be moved in order to keep the streets clear of snow. According to the City ordinance any vehicle that is parked on a city street (same location) for more than forty-eight hours is considered a parking violation and may be ticketed ($10.00) and impounded.
If a vehicle is not moved and snow continues to build up around the vehicle it makes it more difficult for snowplows to clear the streets. This build up also makes it difficult for emergency crews to respond to calls in a timely manner. Finally, with children playing in the snow, and the piling of the snow around vehicles it makes it more difficult for operators of a motor vehicle to see these children if they ran from behind one of these parked cars.
Beginning Monday, December 22, 2008, Cedar Falls Police will begin to ticket all vehicles parked on city streets that look as though they have been parked for an extended period of time. If the vehicle is not moved within twenty-four hours after this ticket being issued it will be towed for the violation.
The Cedar Falls Police Department would like to thank all citizens in advance in helping keep the streets safe and clear of snow.
