As the holidays wrap up, Cedar Falls Public Works offers these helpful guidelines for your seasonal clean-up:

Christmas Tree Disposal

CLEAN TREES (trees free of decorations):  These are considered yard waste. They are accepted at the Cedar Falls Transfer Station located at East 15th Street and State Street on Mondays for a $0.75 disposal fee. 

They can also be picked up: Cut to 4 feet lengths, attach a Cedar Falls Christmas tree tag to a portion of the tree for $1.25,  place the tree at the curb, and call (319) 273-8629 for a Monday pickup.

UNCLEAN TREES (trees that have tinsel, ornaments, garland, and additional decorations still attached): These are considered garbage. They are accepted at the Transfer Station Tuesday through Friday for a $0.75 disposal fee.  

They can also be picked up: Cut to 4 feet lengths, attach a Cedar Falls Christmas tree tag to a portion of the tree for $1.25, and place at the curb on your normal garbage day pickup.

Trees will only be picked up from January 9, 2023, through February 13, 2023. Tree tags cost $1.25 each and can be purchased at HyVee-College Square Mall, Fareway Grocery– Magnolia Drive and South Main, Ace Hardware– 18th Street, or the Cedar Falls Transfer Station.

Holiday Lights

The community can recycle holiday lights that are no longer usable at the Cedar Falls Transfer Station at no cost. There will be a receptacle placed at the entrance or ask the Transfer Station staff for assistance. 

Wrapping paper is not accepted for recycling.
