[ARCHIVED] Cedar Falls Weekly Construction Updates

View the latest updates on area road construction projects in Cedar Falls for the week of October 18, 2022.

Center Street Corridor Streetscape Project: West shoulder is ready for hydro-seeding. Biocell Subdrain, grading, and soil placement operations are underway. Edge restraints for pavers will tentatively be poured next week.

Cedar Heights Drive Reconstruction: Beginning October 19, the contractor will be reconstructing Huntington Road from Cedar Heights just passed the Millenium Drive intersection. For the contractor to start, the Huntington Road section from Cedar Heights Drive just through the Millenium Drive intersection will be closed during construction. This closure is expected to last approximately two months. At the time of the Huntington Road Closure, Cedar Heights Drive will be reopened to traffic.

West Viking Industrial Park, Phase V (Located on Venture Way and Technology Parkway): Paving will begin during the week of October 17 and the adjacent cut/fill operations will be nearing completion by the end of the week. The remaining items will include the pavement and respreading of topsoil on the prepared sites.

Union Road Recreational Trail: The contractor is working on wrapping up the final seeding and punch list items for this project.

Greenhill Road and South Main Street Intersection (Closure: Southbound traffic of Main Street on the south side of the intersection): The contractor has completed the Greenhill Road mainline pavement and will continue pouring the South Main Street paves and miscellaneous hand pours over the following weeks. Beginning the week of October 24, the contractor will begin removals of the existing wooden fence along the southwest corner of the intersection.

West 27th Street Reconstruction: The contractor will continue with the installation of the storm sewer during the week of October 17. The following week, the storm sewer should be completed and the preparation of the grade for pavement should begin.

Lake Street Trail: The contractor has poured the entire trail except for the ramps, as they are waiting for truncated domes to come in. Crews have finished grading on both sides of the trail and the street signage has been reinstalled. The area has also been reseeded.

2022 University Avenue Biocell Project (frontage roads along University Avenue): Contractor has completed the intakes for the first two locations. Crews have started to place the rock in the biocell and place the modified topsoil as well as placed the subdrain for the first two biocell locations. Next, they will place the mulch and prepare for the plantings.

2022 Alley Reconstruction Project

For the 22nd/Seerley/Franklin/Clay alley, the contractor is wrapping up grading along the new alley and then will move in to seed. On the Seerley/26th/Walnut/Iowa alley, the contractor is wrapping up driveway tie-ins and then will grade along the new alley.

2022 Street Construction Project

West 18th Street Phase 1 (Located from Campus Street to Drury Lane): Driveways have been poured on 18th Street and will be followed by backfill and topsoil. 18th Street should be fully completed and reopened within two weeks.

Olive Street (4th to 6th Street): Olive Street is now reopened.

2022 Sidewalk Repair and Infill Project

West 7th and Francis Street: Waiting for the contractor to move back in to continue the ADA ramps and common panel replacements. The contractor has placed utility locates in various locations before removals.
