Registration is now open for the fall Household Hazardous and Electronics Waste Collection Event on September 17, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Public Works Building located at 2200 Technology Parkway. Black Hawk County residents may dispose of household hazardous (HHW) and electronic waste during the event. Residents are required to register prior to the event at wastetrac.org in order to participate. This event is for residents of Black Hawk County only. No farm, business, or non-profit waste will be accepted.
The event is for the collection of HHW to prevent contamination of water sources and child poisoning. HHW includes items such as household cleaners, solvents, paint removers, herbicides, pesticides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based wood coatings, adhesives, epoxies, and glue. All hazardous waste items must be in sealed containers smaller than five gallons. All materials collected will be recycled, used for energy, and/or disposed of properly.
In addition to HHW, computers, computer monitors and equipment, televisions, handheld electronics, audiovisual equipment, countertop kitchen gadgets, and other items with a cord or battery may be accepted for recycling. Residents are allowed two cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and monitors per vehicle at no charge. Additional CRTs are $5.00 each.
Paint, laundry detergents, soaps, cosmetics, motor oil, antifreeze, tires, appliances, and general waste are not accepted at this event. For a complete list of accepted materials accepted, please visit wastetrac.org. You can also follow the Waste Trac Education Team Facebook page for updates.
If you have questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 319-234-8115. This event is sponsored by the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission (BHCSWMC), City of Cedar Falls, and City of Waterloo.
This event would not be possible without the assistance of local businesses, community groups, and individual community members. 50 volunteers (age 16+) are needed. To volunteer, go to wastetrac.org or email email@example.com.
Volunteers assist with directing traffic, shrink-wrapping, traffic safety/surveying, and unloading household chemicals and electronics from vehicles. Community groups and businesses are encouraged to sign up to help, whether it be part of a sports team, civic or collegiate club, corporate team, church group, etc. Individuals or those needing to fulfill community service may sign up as well. There are two volunteer shifts available: 7:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (entire event) OR 7:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (morning shift). Organizations that commit to providing a team of five or more by August 31, 2022, will be recognized through event promotion materials and a post with the organization's logo at the event.
If you are interested in volunteering, register at wastetrac.org or call (319) 234-8115. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org.
