[ARCHIVED] Cedar Falls Weekly Construction Updates

View the latest updates on area road construction projects in Cedar Falls for the week of July 25, 2022.

Center Street Corridor Streetscape Project: For the week of July 25, the City's contractor, Owen Contracting, Inc., will continue with paving operations at intersections, removals, and grading on the east side of Center Street between Lone Tree and Longview. Other crews will be installing underground utilities along the east side of the corridor including storm sewer, sub drains, and new light poles. Center Street is currently in a one-way pattern for northbound traffic between Lone Tree Road and Clair Street. 

Cedar Heights Drive Reconstruction (Located at Cedar Heights and Greenhill Road): For the week of July 25, the City's contractor, PCI, will continue with trail paving operations adjacent to Cedar Heights Drive south of Huntington roundabout. Crews will also start final grading Cedar Heights along the newly paved section. Other crews will be working on painting, signage, and erosion control as the final pieces from stage 1 are completed.

West Viking Industrial Park, Phase V (Located on Venture Way and Technology Parkway): For the week of July 25, the City's contractor, PCI, will continue with mass grading operations, including the northerly and westerly detention facilities, as weather conditions allow. Crews will also continue to work on watermain, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer placement on the southern half of the project. Crews will be focusing on the southern half in order to prepare for paving operations in about a month's time. As dryer conditions continue into summer, the contractor will be working to place dust control elements throughout the project.

Union Road Recreational Trail (located at Beaver Road intersection onto Union Road): During the week of July 25, the Contractor will continue to address punch list items including erosion control, seeding, and general housekeeping times. Final seeding will occur in the fall seeding window in approximately a month for when the project can be finaled out and accepted by the City.

Greenhill Road and South Main Street Intersection (Closure: Southbound traffic of Main Street on the north side of the intersection): The concrete paving contractor has been installing the Phase 2 concrete in the northeast corner of the intersection. As this stage's concrete nears completion in the following weeks, the contractor will begin preparations to switch to Phase 3 work, including the traffic switch to the north half of the intersection and the closure of the south half of the intersection.

Downtown Streetscape and Reconstruction Project Phase II: East 3rd Street (from Main to State) is nearing completion with the planned pavement placement. The sidewalk removal and adjacent amenity pads will take place over the following week, with brick placement likely beginning the week of August 1. East 3rd Street is approximately three weeks from completion.

West 27th Street (Closure of West 27th Street at Panther Parkway)For the week of July 25, the City's contractor, PCI, will continue with preparing the road for paving operations by working on grading, placement of sub drains, and widening the roadway limits. Crews will be focusing on the easterly side of the project in order to complete Panther Parkway as soon as possible. A reminder that all UNI parking lots will remain open with alternative access points during construction.

2022 Alley Reconstruction Project

The 1st/2nd/Ellen/Francis alley is now completed. The contractor has poured the Olive/Walnut/9th/10th alley and now has to backfill and tie in the driveway connections next week. Crews continue with removals on the State/Bluff/11th/12th alley.

2022 Street Construction Project

West 18th Street Phase 1 (Located from Campus Street to Drury Lane): The contractor has finished paving West 18th Street and is completing the storm sewer intake tops now.

Olive Street (4th to 6th Street): Storm sewer is getting installed over the following week.      

Hudson Road ( Single Lane Closure from 1st to 12th Street): Asphalt milling on Hudson has been completed and asphalt will be placed between July 22 and July 27.
