[ARCHIVED] Cedar Falls Weekly Construction Updates: June 13, 2022

View the latest updates on area road construction projects in Cedar Falls for the week of June 13, 2022.

Cedar Heights Drive Reconstruction (Located at Cedar Heights and Greenhill Road): 

Closure/detour: Cedar Heights and Greenhill Intersection, north and southbound Cedar Heights remains closed. 

For the week of June 13, the City's contractor, PCI, will continue with underground utility work along Huntington Road, landscaping at Viking Road roundabout, and also continue with paving operations between Prairie Street and Huntington Road. Painting operations will be occurring on new sections of pavement during evenings and weekends.

West Viking Industrial Park, Phase V (Located on Venture Way and Technology Parkway):

For the week of June 13, the City's contractor, PCI, will continue with mass grading operations as weather conditions allow. Crews are also finalizing the Viking Road culvert crossing and will be preparing for the asphalt overlay. Other crews will be working on sanitary sewer, working their way north.

Final grading, sidewalk, seeding, and cleanup remain to be completed.

Union Road Recreational Trail (located at Beaver Road intersection onto Union Road)

The contractor has started to work on the punch list items and they are working on making Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) corrections throughout the project site.

2021 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Sidewalk Repair and Infill Project (Location: Bluebell Infill Location)

The Contractor has poured the sidewalk at the Bluebell infill location. They are now planning on moving to the common panels and ramps that are to be replaced.  

2021 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Sidewalk Repair and Infill Project (Location: West 3rd Street Infill and Tucson Drive Location)

The City is waiting on the Contractor to move in for sod/seed of the two infill locations. Once the Contractor finishes this then a punch list will be prepared for West 3rd Street.

Greenhill Road and South Main Street Intersection

Closure: Southbound traffic of Main Street on the north side of the intersection 

The concrete mainline pavement along Greenhill Road will be completed the week of June 6. After that pavement is installed, northbound traffic on South Main Street will be shifted to the west side of the road while the contractor works on the remaining pavement north of the intersection.

Downtown Streetscape and Reconstruction Project Phase II

East 3rd Street (from Main to State) subdrain is completed and the contractor will prepare for the paving. Concrete is expected to begin getting placed the week of June 13.

West 27th Street Sanitary Sewer Extension

Closure/Detour: Expected closure of West 27th Street is scheduled for late October 2022

For the week of June 13, the City's contractor, PCI, will continue with pavement removal adjacent to Panther Parkway and start preparing for underground storm sewer work. Additional utility contractors will be working on West 27th Street between Union and Hudson over the next month as crews work to relocate for other phases of the project. All UNI parking lots will remain open with alternative access points during construction. 

2022 Street Construction Project

West 18th Street Phase 1 (Located from Campus Street to Drury Lane/Hudson Road will have single-lane closures from 1st to 12th Street): The contractor has completed the water main services on West 18th Street. After services are installed, the remaining work includes the installation of the new subdrain and preparation for the new pavement. Hudson Road storm sewer intakes are now replaced with minor curb work remaining on the inside lanes. Traffic operations along Hudson Road will shift to the outside lanes but operate as normal beginning the week of June 13. Olive Street reconstruction has begun with the removals from 4th to 6th Street.
