[ARCHIVED] No Mow May in Cedar Falls

No Mow May

To help create early pollinator plants for the bee population, Cedar Falls City Council has resolved to not enforce the City's maximum 8-inch weed and grass height nuisance ordinance during the month of May 2022. The goal of 'No Mow May' is to provide bees, butterflies, and other pollinators with vital spring foraging opportunities.

This is a voluntary environmental initiative and residents do not have to participate if they do not wish to do so. Although residents are not required to mow during the month of May, they will need to ensure proper mowing in accordance with Section 17-246 of the City Code starting June 1, 2022.

Residents are reminded that grass cannot be discharged into the streets, storm sewers, trails, or municipal sidewalks.

Due to safety concerns, and the need to keep grass cut near roads and trails, City staff will continue to mow grass as normal. However, the City does maintain several acres of pollinator prairie that does not receive any type of mowing throughout the year.
