Cedar Falls Public Safety is proud to once again partner with the Target Distribution Center to host the annual Safety City event for area schools. Safety City will be held in the parking lot at the Target Distribution Center from September 14 to September 17. Kindergarten students from the Cedar Falls Community Schools, Valley Lutheran School, St. Patrick's Catholic School, and homeschooled children will all be in attendance, totaling about 500 students.
During the program, students will learn about fire safety, calling 911, first aid, stranger danger, electrical safety, and railroad safety. Target team members will also complete a child ID kit with fingerprints on every kindergarten student in attendance.
The Safety City program and related materials are funded annually through a grant from Target Corporation. The public safety agencies of Cedar Falls want to thank Target for their commitment and support of this annual public education program.
Partnering agencies offering this public education include the Target Corporation, the Cedar Falls Police Department, Cedar Falls Fire Rescue, Black Hawk County Consolidated Dispatch, MercyOne Hospitals, Cedar Falls Utilities, and Iowa Northern Railway Company.
The Safety City Program has been an annual event since 1968, with the exception of 2020 due to COVID-19.
