[ARCHIVED] Press Release - 06/13/2008, 12:30 p.m.

The Mayor of Cedar Falls has issued a Mandatory Order that all restaurants, bars and hotels in the downtown area that is north of 6th Street and east of Franklin Street to the Cedar River, must be closed for regular business. Violators will be prosecuted the full extent of the law.

This Mandatory Order shall remain in effect until further notice. The sewer system will be monitored constantly and restaurants, bars and hotels in this area will be allowed to re-open as soon as possible.

The groundwater is very high and the entire sewer system is flooded underground. The sewer system is overwhelmed, and the public health requires that everyone cooperate in the same spirit and determination that prevented the City Sewage Treatment Plant and downtown area from massive flooding.
