Construction Updates: September 11, 2020

Downtown Streetscape (project located on 2nd/3rd Street):

West 2nd Street remains completely closed to traffic with the subgrade now rocked and ready for Cunningham to begin preparing the pour. Paving is expected to take two to three weeks- This was originally planned to begin this week but was delayed by the rain. The brick paver contractor is expecting to begin work on the south sidewalk along East 2nd Street as Cunningham finishes the paving on West 2nd Street. Crews will immediately begin work on the W 2nd Street Sidewalks afterward.

Expected project completion date: Fall 2020

West 1st Street/Hwy 57 - Phase 2 (project located West 1st Street/HWY 57-Franklin Street to Hudson Road): 

Head-to-head traffic will continue on the south lanes between Ellen and Walnut Streets. Crews will continue to work on the sanitary sewer service connection, storm sewer installation, and other related underground utility work between N. Ellen and Pearl Streets. Crews will continue to work towards the east with pavement removal and underground utility work. Temporary driveway access will be provided by the contractor to residential and commercial properties.

Expected project completion date: Fall 2021

West 12th Street Reconstruction (project located West 12th - Tremont to College Streets, Walnut - 11th to 12th Streets):

West 12th Street is reopened with a few minor finishing touches to be made by PCI contractors. PCI has Walnut rocked and proof roll passed, their structures crew is now pouring the retaining wall on top of the sidewalk.

Expected project completion date: Fall 2020

Cedar Falls Permeable Alley Project (project located 4th/5th Street on Tremont and Iowa, 22nd and Seerley on Tremont and Franklin):

4th/5th Street Alley has both collars in and brick work completed. Currently waiting on seeding everywhere that has been regraded adjacent to the new alley. 22nd/Seerley Alley has both collars poured and the South Approach. Cunningham has poured the concrete patch back on 22nd Street and Aspro is going to complete the HMA lift next.

Expected project completion date: Fall 2020

Additional 2020 Annual Street Construction Updates (all projects expected to be completed by Fall 2020):

26th Street - Iowa Street to Tremont Street: Storm sewer work ongoing along 26th St. Water main is currently being installed at the intersection of 26th and Tremont.

Lilac Lane - Rownd St. to McClain Dr.: Street is closed from Rownd to 600’ west. Lilac Lane is being prepared for paving operations to begin next week and Cunningham Construction is currently planning on paving the mainline pour for Lilac on September 17.

Madison Street- Valley Park to Waterloo Road: Street is currently closed from Valley Park to Whiteway. Madison Drive is being prepared for paving operations to begin next week. Cunningham Construction is currently planning on paving the mainline pour for Madison next Tuesday, followed by a 1/2 intersection hand-pour at White Way Drive. 

11th Street - Division Street to College Street: Asphalt paving has been completed. Topsoil and sod/seed scheduled for placement.

Union Road - 1st St./HWY 57 to N.C.L: Complete. 

Note, construction on the following streets listed as part of the 2020 Annual Street Program are complete: Clearview Drive (Primerose to Orchard), Chateau Court (4th Street to Cul-de-sac), Holmes Drive (4th Street to Holmes Junior High), Carlton Drive (Lilac Lane to Maplewood Drive), Seerley Blvd. (Valley Park to Melrose Drive), Ashland Ave. (Acorn Lane to Pin Oak Drive).
