Over 800 people were in attendance during this year’s National Night Out Against Crime event, which took place August 6, 2019, at the Cedar Falls Target Retail Store, located at 214 Viking Plaza Dr.
The Cedar Falls Department of Public Safety teamed up with MercyOne Hospital, Iowa State Patrol, Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, the Iowa Army Air National Guard, and the UNI Police Department, along with Target, to put on the event. The Cedar Falls Hy-Vee store also provided a free cookout and assisted with the festivities.
Families enjoyed activities including a professional face-painter, balloon artist, and child-friendly handouts and giveaways. Attendees got the chance to get an up-close look at fire, medical, and police vehicles including fire trucks, ambulance, police K9, police motorcycle, and police vehicles and bicycles. The Iowa Army Air National Guard was also on-site with the Black Hawk Helicopter.
The annual event provides both adults and children the opportunity to speak to emergency personnel and learn more about crime prevention and safety.
The Cedar Falls Department of Public Safety wishes to thank everyone that attended as well as the agencies that helped make it possible. Next year’s National Night Out event is scheduled to take place on August 4, 2020.
