PRESS RELEASE:
Wednesday, September 5, 2018 3:30 pm
The Mayor and staff at the City of Cedar Falls is aware of projected river
levels and has started the process of following our flood emergency
preparedness procedures. We will continue to provide press releases with
more detail and more up to date information. Please continue to look for
flood information on the City’s webpage (cedarfalls.com). You can also
follow the link on the flood webpage to monitor river levels and current
projections (use link to Cedar River Information-Hydrograph). The City
does have brochures with information regarding streets affected and what
to do to prepare for a flood. These brochures can be picked up at City Hall
or found on the City’s website.
As you know, for the past year the Cedar Falls levee has been under
construction. Much of the levee construction is completed, increasing the
height by 2 feet (to a 500-year flood level). Currently work is occurring in
the area of Peter Melendy Park. To protect this work, we will be reinforcing
low areas. Current Cedar River projections are not to the level of causing
further concerns.
If you have questions, please feel free to call 319-243-2700.
