Did you know the week of June 17 is National Waste and Recycling Workers Week? Traditionally held on June 17 as 'National Garbage Man Day,' the event name was updated in 2019 and extended to a week-long celebration to include all of the individuals that work hard to keep cities across the nation beautiful.

Here in Cedar Falls, we encourage our community to show their appreciation to these vital men and women by sending cards to the Cedar Falls Public Works office at 2200 Technology Parkway or just giving them a friendly wave when you see them at work. Above all, one of the most helpful things citizens can do to express their gratitude to our City refuse workers is make their jobs a little easier with these tips:

- Do not overload trash cans
- Do no put yard waste in with trash
- If you must pass a garbage truck, please do so carefully
- Place your collection bin away from your mailbox and be courtesy of where you park on trash pick-up day
- If you utilize yard waste collection, click here to view information and guidelines from the City of Cedar Falls

Recycling
The Cedar Falls Recycling Drop Off Center is located next to the Transfer Station on the 1500 block of State Street. Remote sites are also available on Panther Parkway and Greenhill Village. Acceptable items include carboard, newsprint, magazines, tin cans, clear and colored glass, office paper, plastics #1-7, plastic grocery bags, and phone books (accepted May - August). All containers should be clean when dropping off. Please note, brown packaging paper and brown paper bags should be returned with cardboard when recycling and not office paper/newspaper. Styrofoam and cooking oil are accepted at the 15th Street site only. Cooking oil should not contain any food residue and take-out Styrofoam containers should be wiped clean of sauces/food before returning.
