About Reserve Unit

On June 10, 1996, the Mayor and Cedar Falls City Council administered the Oath of Office to twelve individuals to form a new Reserve Unit within the Cedar Falls Police Department. Today there are 11 Reserve Officers and each one is enrolled in a certified police-training course that follows the guidelines set forth by the State of Iowa.

Training


Reserve officers are required to complete Reserve Officer Certification through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy within 18 months.  This includes the completion of weapons training, module training and testing, CPR Training and ride time with career officers.    

Officer Requirements & Duties


Each Reserve Officer is required to perform a minimum of 16 hours of duty per month. The Reserve Unit is an integral part of the Community Policing Concept, and assist with special events throughout the community and assist career officers with routine patrol.
