The Cedar Falls Public Safety Department is hosting a Youth Fire Academy!

The 2023 class is full check back next year!

Two Day Course (4 hours each day): Thursday, July 20 & Friday, July 21, 2023 from 12:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.

The training provides Cedar Falls youth with some history of fire service, and a look at the important role Fire/EMS have in the community. The course ends with a physical fitness confidence course and a meal with Firefighters!

Requirements:

Participants must be between ages 8–12, and live in Cedar Falls or attend Cedar Falls schools. Participants who complete the course receive a certificate and a t-shirt.

Objectives:

Some of the topics covered are: fire history, fire prevention, first aid, firefighting, rescue, and EMS operations. Participants get hands-on training with some gear, equipment, and apparatus. Participants will also get hands-on training flowing water from a fire engine. We will share with participants what the requirements are to become a Firefighter or EMT. The hands-on, educational experience of this course is great for young people interested in the fire service! This course increases every participant’s situational awareness and knowledge of fire safety, and will help them know what to do in a fire emergency.

Please note: Hot dogs, burger, chips and cookies will be offered as part of this event. Food may contain or have come into contact with common allergens such as dairy, eggs, wheat, soybeans, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, or others.  If there are any concerns about food allergies please feel free to bring your own food and join us!
