West Viking Industrial Park Expansion
About the Project:
The City of Cedar Falls will be expanding the West Viking Industrial Park from its current extent, westerly, towards Union Road and south of Viking Road. Construction of the project will be phased based on demand for lots in the newly proposed industrial park. In the first phase of this project scheduled for 2022, construction will be focused around the extension of Venture Way, Technology Place, and a new north/south road called Innovation Drive. This first phase of construction will complete the first loop into the new industrial park expansion providing new and additional industrial building lots along Venture Way and Innovation Drive. Work will include new storm sewer, sanitary sewer, watermain, regional stormwater detention ponds, a multiuse trail system, and other underground utilities.

Beginning Tuesday, May 31st, 2022, the City’s contractor, PCI, will be closing down and installing a new culvert system across Viking Road. In order for the contractor to start, Viking Road will be closed for four (4) weeks during the crossing. ‘Local Traffic Only’ signs will be placed at the entrances of S. Union Road and Production Drive for residents to access their property. No impact to driveways on Viking Road is expected. The overall detour will be S. Union Road to University Ave. to Hudson Road and back to Viking Road. After the completion of the culvert installation, a new roadway segment will be placed over the culvert and the road will be restored to traffic as it previously was before the closure. Below, please find the closure details and the overall detour map.

Beginning the week of March 28th, 2022, the City’s contractor, PCI, will be starting the West Viking Road Industrial Park Phase V Project. Construction will be focused around the extension of Venture Way, Technology Place, and a new north/south road called Innovation Drive. This will complete the first loop into the new industrial park providing new industrial building lots along Venture Way and Innovation Drive. Work will include new storm sewer, sanitary sewer, watermain, regional stormwater detention ponds, a multiuse trail system, and other underground utilities. Construction for the project will be split into two major phases of construction throughout the year.
For the first half of the construction season, crews will continue to work on mass grading operations across the entire site located south of Viking Road and East of Union Road. Grading operations will include placement of stormwater detention ponds, roadway grading, and also setting up developable lots. During this phase, the contractor will also be starting underground utilities.
Then in mid-summer, crews will switch from mass grading operations to paving operations. Work will include installing the remaining underground utilities and then start the placement of the new roadway for the first extension of the industrial park.
