Cedar Heights Drive Reconstruction

Beginning Wednesday, October 19^th, 2022, the City’s contractor, PCI, will be reconstructing Huntington Road from Cedar Heights just passed the Millenium Drive intersection. In order for the contractor to start, the Huntington Road section from Cedar Heights Drive just through the Millenium Drive intersection will be closed during construction. 

At the time of the Huntington Road Closure, Cedar Heights Drive will be reopened to traffic as shown in the maps below. Please see the maps for the highlighted closure area as well as detour routes for traffic coming West to Cedar Heights Drive.

Beginning as early as Wednesday, August 3^rd, 2022, the City’s contractor, PCI, will continue construction with the next section of Cedar Heights Drive from Huntington Road to approximately 4710 Cedar Heights (Learn & Play Preschool & Daycare). Cedar Heights Drive will be opened from the Viking Road roundabout to the newly established Huntington Road roundabout. Huntington Road will be open with a temporary asphalt milled surface to the Huntington roundabout. North of the Huntington roundabout will be for local access only as crews work to repave this section.

For those properties at 5011 to 5117 Cedar Heights, temporary access will be provided to the south towards the newly established Huntington Road roundabout. For those that live on Viking Place and Prairie Street, access will be restored to Cedar Heights and the old temporary access will be removed. For 4803 & 4710 Cedar Heights, temporary access will be provided to the north towards Cedar Hill Road. The overall detour will remain the same by utilizing Viking Road, Prairie Parkway, and Greenhill Road. 

This staging switch does vary from the original approach of first completing Huntington then Cedar Heights. However, the contractor feels this switch can reduce overall construction time with all the underground that was completed for this stage over the past few months. Huntington will be closed in approximately 2 months’ time where the final tie-in will occur to the Huntington roundabout. 

During construction, rural type mailboxes will be removed and temporarily relocated. The contractor will coordinate the location of the relocated mailboxes with the U.S. Postal Service. Normally, all mailboxes are relocated to the adjacent side streets. Once reconstruction is completed, the mailboxes will be returned to their original location. Please do not park adjacent to the relocated mailboxes. The residents will be responsible for removing any decorative attachments to the mailboxes and relocating any landscape plantings within the right-of-way. The contractor will be responsible for removing and temporarily relocating the mailbox and post only.

Beginning Monday, May 9th, 2022, the City’s contractor, PCI, will be installing a new watermain across Cedar Heights Drive and Huntington Road. In order for the contractor to start, the temporary road connection from Cedar Heights Drive to Huntington Road will be closed for one (1) week during the crossing. After the completion of the watermain installation, the temporary access road will be restored with Huntington Road opened back to Cedar Heights Drive to the north, as it previously was prior to the closure.

Cedar Heights Drive, from the existing Viking Road roundabout to Huntington Road, will still remain closed as crews work to finalize underground utility installation and prepare for paving operations. Residents south of Cedar Heights Drive will still have access to the temporary drive located at the Viking Place cul-de-sac.

Beginning Monday, March 7^th, 2022, the City’s contractor, PCI, will be starting year 2 of the Cedar Heights Drive Reconstruction Project. The start of construction this season will involve a three (3) week sequence start due to underground utilities. The following is to be expected over the next three (3) weeks:

Starting Monday, March 14th, 2022, the City’s contractor will close Huntington Road at the intersection of Cedar Heights for underground water main and sanitary sewer crossings. This closure on Huntington Road is expected to be two (2) weeks. Access on Cedar Heights Drive will remain open. During this time, temporary roadway connections will be established at Viking Place to Cedar Heights and Huntington Road to Cedar Heights. 

Starting Monday, March 21st, 2022, the City’s contractor will start with single lane closures for landscaping work in the middle of the new Cedar Heights Drive & Greenhill Road roundabout. Traffic will be maintained in all directions at this intersection. Huntington Road will still be closed at this time.

Starting Monday, March 28th, 2022, the City’s contractor will start with a full-width closure of Cedar Heights Drive from the roundabout at Viking Road to south of Huntington Road. Residents south of Cedar Heights will have access from the new temporary drive located at the Viking Place cul-de-sac. Huntington Road will also be opened back to Cedar Heights Drive by a temporary road to the north.
