After last winter’s heavy snowfall and extremely cold temperatures, the City prepared for possible ice jams and related flooding along the Cedar River and its tributaries in the spring and summer of 2014. Residents were encouraged to be prepared and have all contingency plans in place. Although Black Hawk County was included in one Presidential Disaster Declaration due to a severe storm, our City experienced only minor flooding in 2014.
As we head into the fall and winter seasons, we remind families to review their emergency preparedness plans, including a list of items needed in the event that evacuation becomes necessary. A brochure that provides guidance on flood levels and evacuation notices is available using the link on the left side of this page. Also found on this page are links to information concerning the Cedar River. Don’t wait until flood season to prepare a plan!
