About Fire Chief Schilling
Appointment
Fire Chief John-Paul Schilling was appointed to serve the City of Cedar Falls as Chief of the Cedar Falls Fire Department on December 12, 2008.

Leadership Experience
Prior to Schilling’s appoint he has served in varying capacities and leadership roles in Iowa and Alabama. Most recently Schilling served on the Ankeny Fire Department as Deputy Chief, in that role he managed many of the day-to-day operations of the department along with improving the quality of services provided to the citizens of Ankeny. Schilling was involved in the upgrading of the fire departments ISO rating.

In addition, Schilling worked with other fire and emergency service agencies within Polk County to improve mutual aid response and coordination of services, the outcome was the creation of Polk County’s Tiered Emergency Asset Management System (TEAMS).

Experience
Before serving in the state of Iowa, Schilling served with the Eufaula Fire Department in Eufaula, Alabama, and Ozark Fire Department in Ozark, Alabama.

Education
Schilling’s education includes paramedic certification, a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration with emphasis on Fire Science from Upper Iowa University. Schilling also has numerous fire related training courses from various sources. Currently, Schilling is enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy.
