Major Incident Response Team (M.I.R.T.)

The Major Incident Response Team was formed in 1983 as a specialized operational intervention unit, which can be activated to resolve non-routine police problems.  

The Unit requires strict discipline, physical excellence, a high degree of mental fitness, and the ability to excel in the assigned expertise.

Services We Provide

Situations that may require the activation of the M.I.R.T. team:

• Hostage situations
• Barricaded persons
• Sniper situations
• Terrorist incidents
• Armed suicidal persons
• Civil disturbance
• Dignitary protection
• Warrant service on felony arrests involving the possible use of a weapon
• Any other incident deemed necessary by the chief of police or other designee
