Reserve Unit
On June 10, 1996, the Mayor and Cedar Falls City Council
administered the Oath of Office to twelve individuals to form a new Reserve
Unit within the Cedar Falls Police Department. Today there are 19 Reserve
Officers and each one is enrolled in a certified police-training course that
follows the guidelines set forth by the State of Iowa.
Training
The training includes physical fitness testing and medical
checks, as well as receiving classroom and actual on-the-job training from
active duty officers. There is also an optional Iowa Law Enforcement Reserve
Academy training these officers can attend at their own expense.
Officer
Requirements & Duties
Each Reserve Officer is required to perform a minimum of
16 hours of duty per month. The Reserve Unit is an integral part of the
Community Policing Concept, and are assigned varied duties including:
- Routine Patrol
- Parade and Festival Celebrations
- Bike
