About Reserve Unit

On June 10, 1996, the Mayor and Cedar Falls City Council administered the Oath of Office to twelve individuals to form a new Reserve Unit within the Cedar Falls Police Department. Today there are 19 Reserve Officers and each one is enrolled in a certified police-training course that follows the guidelines set forth by the State of Iowa.

Training

The training includes physical fitness testing and medical checks, as well as receiving classroom and actual on-the-job training from active duty officers. There is also an optional Iowa Law Enforcement Reserve Academy training these officers can attend at their own expense.

Officer Requirements & Duties

Each Reserve Officer is required to perform a minimum of 16 hours of duty per month. The Reserve Unit is an integral part of the Community Policing Concept, and are assigned varied duties including:

  • Routine Patrol
  • Parade and Festival Celebrations
  • Bike Patrol
