The Board of Rental Housing Appeals was created by the Landlord Accountability Ordinance in 2009. The Board is comprised of seven (7) members from the general public who own or rent property in Cedar Falls. Board membership seeks balance and diversity from the following categories: owner occupied residential property; single or multi-unit rental investment residential property; residential student tenant; and residential non-student tenant, each appointed for a term of four (4) years.
The Board of Rental Housing Appeals reviews the assessment of points given to a rental property for a found complaint of a violation. A property owner may appeal the assessment of infraction points against the dwelling unit within fourteen (14) days of receiving the points. The Board also hears appeals relative to occupancy limits and group rental permits, and property owners may appeal to the Board within thirty (30) days of the action or decision of the Group Rental Committee.
