Construction Updates: October 2, 2020


Downtown Streetscape (project located on 2nd Street):

West 2nd St remains closed with the mainline pour completed. Additional paving on the side parking areas is now completed. Next week, Benton's and KW Electric will mobilize in to prepare the sidewalks for pavers. Meanwhile, Cunningham's crew will continue working on the alley approaches, driveways, amenity pads, and concrete edge restraint. The brick paver contractor is expecting to begin work on the W 2nd Street Sidewalks afterward. The West 2nd Street roadway will be open to traffic beginning October 5th. On October 7th, Matthias and Cardinal Construction will be setting the twig benches along the parkade.

Expected project completion date: Fall 2020

West 1st Street/Hwy 57 - Phase 2 (project located West 1st Street/HWY 57-Franklin Street to Hudson Road): 

Head-to-head traffic will continue on the south lanes between Ellen and Walnut Streets. The contractor has begun paving operations in the north lanes during the week of September 28th. The contractor will also begin median related work on Hudson Road near the 1st Street intersection. Traffic on Hudson Road and commercial entrances will be maintained throughout construction.

Expected project completion date: Fall 2021

West 12th Street Reconstruction (project located West 12th - Tremont to College Streets, Walnut - 11th to 12th Streets):

West 12th Street is closed from Tremont to College Streets. Cunningham has poured half of the north side of Walnut, as well as half of the south side. They have been prepping for the other halves to be poured in both the north and south portions. PCI is going to be working on the placement of subdrain behind the wall and then backfilling the wall. 

Expected project completion date: Fall 2020

Cedar Falls Permeable Alley Project (project located 4th/5th Street on Tremont and Iowa, 22nd and Seerley on Tremont and Franklin):

Direction has been given to Benton's regarding a ramp being poured for the 4th/5th Alley at 514 4th Streets' back door and now we are waiting on Benton's to place rock for the parking area. After this, the project will be completed with the exception of punch list items.  

Expected project completion date: Fall 2020

Additional 2020 Annual Street Construction Updates (all projects expected to be completed by Fall 2020):

Lilac Lane (Rownd St. to McClain Dr.), Madison Street (Valley Park to Waterloo Raod), 26th Street (Iowa Street to Tremont Street): Both Lilac Lane and Madison Drive had sod placed this week. By Monday, both of these roads will be fully open to traffic. Underground work was completed at 26th Street with the intersection and curb pours to follow next week.

Additional Construction Note: The Clay Street Drainage Project is taking place in the Alley and Park between Clay/Washington and 16th/17th Street. The area is closed. Currently, the bio-cell is 70 percent complete and Bentons has all the bio mix in and has graded the surrounded area to slope specifications. Mulch, plants, and hydro-seeding will need to be done as well. The alleyway east and west drive lanes are poured as well as the north end approach and sidewalk. Cunningham will be working on the south end sidewalk and then Benton's should be coring out the sidewalk along 16th. The other bio-cell and sidewalk along W. 15th Street remain as well. Expected to be completed Fall 2020.
