Cedar Falls Fire Rescue Responds to Residential Fire at 8024 Slap Tail Trail.

On November 22nd, 2019 at approximately 9:13PM, firefighters and Public Safety Officers responded to a report of a residential fire at 8024 Slap Tail Trail, owned by Ken Lockard.

The initial 911 calls reported that the living room and house was on fire and that there was fire coming out of the front door. The homeowner was not at home, but called 911 to report that there were two children at home and that a handicapped adult was at the home who would need to be carried out of the home. Upon arrival firefighters and public safety officers found a residential structure well involved in fire. Water tankers were requested from multiple neighboring fire departments to help with hauling water to the scene.

Fire crews immediately placed a ladder to a 1st floor roof and, after breaking out a window, rescued a profoundly handicapped individual.

Paramedics transported two people from the home to Mercy One Hospital in Cedar Falls due to smoke inhalation and non-life threatening injuries. Several hose lines were used to try to control fire. Water to fight the fire was shuttled to the scene using a tanker trucks from Cedar Falls Fire and several neighboring fire departments. The residence sustained significant damage and is considered a total loss. Callback personnel including off duty firefighters and public safety officers, assisted with the extinguishment and overhaul of the residence. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department, Janesville, New Hartford, and Stout Fire Departments assisted Cedar Falls Fire Rescue Department with operations at this scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
