Mayor Rob Green assumed office as the 45th mayor of Cedar Falls on January 2, 2020. He previously served for two years as an at-large member of the Cedar Falls City Council, and three years on the city's Board of Rental Housing Appeals. Mayor Green is currently on a leave of absence as a web developer at the University of Northern Iowa while serving as mayor.
Mayor Green settled in Cedar Falls in 2004 with his Waterloo-native wife after a decade of service in the U.S. Coast Guard, and lives in the Sartori Park neighborhood with his wife, Jocelyn, and two teenage children, Elsa and Ethan. He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1998 with a bachelor of science in Government/Public Policy. He also holds a Master of Arts in Instructional Technology from the University of Northern Iowa (2016), a Master of Library and Information Science from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and completed masters coursework in National Security Strategy at the Naval War College.
Mayor Green is active in the community's executive processes through the Black Hawk County Emergency Management Commission, Grow Cedar Valley Executive Committee, Iowa League of Cities Legislative Policy Committee, Iowa Northeast Regional Council of Governments (INRCOG) Executive Committee, and various other civic boards. He is also a member of the Iowa Mayors Association and is a Certified Elected Municipal Official through the Iowa League of Cities. He is a 2013 recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and the 2017 Cedar Valley Mayors' Volunteer Service Award.
Mayor Green volunteers with Civil Air Patrol as an emergency services aircrew member, as CAP/Iowa Wing's government relations advisor, and as CAP liaison to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC). He also delivers weekly with Meals on Wheels. In his free time, he enjoys studying presidential history, illustration & cartography, military science fiction, strategy PC games, trebuchets, dad jokes, and board game nights with family and friends.
